“Don’t talk to strangers!” Most of us were probably taught this from a young age, by those who raised us, in order to keep us safe. The majority of parents will impress upon their children to avoid contact with strangers.
Strangers can be dangerous, and we should only trust people we already know. While this is an important part of keeping children safe, it serves another purpose.
The Conscious Mind vs The Subconscious Mind
The warning to stay away from strangers is meant for the conscious mind — the logical, reasoning part of us that makes conscious decisions; however, everything we experience is absorbed, interpreted and filed by the subconscious. This is how we learn how the world works — not from how it actually works, but from how our subconscious interprets our experiences, and how it connects that data.
Since “Don’t talk to strangers!” is a warning — and is often accompanied by a significant amount of urgency and emotion from the person doing the warning — the child’s subconscious prioritizes that information, and files it for future reference. Since the subconscious cannot reason or use logic, it may well take the warning literally, and build a support structure around this vital piece of life-or-death information — without discrimination, and without taking into consideration different circumstances.
For some people this causes a knock-on effect that appears to be a problem on its own, but in fact may have its root in that early childhood warning. Naturally, not everyone who has a problem speaking in public, approaching potential clients or customers, and meeting new people will have the same cause, but many do.
The great news is, you don’t need to know where your fear or anxiety regarding speaking to strangers originally comes from;using FasterEFT you can clear and transform that area of your life without the knowledge of the original cause.
Freeing Yourself from the Fear of Speaking to Strangers
If you find you have resistance or fear when you need to speak to people you don’t know, there is a simple way to clear the cause of it. Using FasterEFT you work with your subconscious mind to address the original records(whatever they may be) and make the changes that will result in a different reaction when you need to speak to strangers.
Currently, your subconscious is referencing something in its records that provides “evidence” that speaking to people you don’t know is dangerous in some way. When you find yourself in a position where you need to speak to a stranger (or even think about the fact that you need to speak to them) your subconscious will prompt your brain to trigger your organs to produce fight-or-flight chemicals, causing your body to go into an emergency state.
If you change those original records, your subconscious will be referring to the new records instead, and there will be no need to trigger a fight-or-flight state. So, how do you change the records — especially if you don’t know what they are? Here’s a simple process you can use to make the necessary changes:
Start by thinking about speaking to strangers — whether they are prospects, interviewers, business contacts, or people in a social situation — and notice how you feel. Notice where in your body you feel the fear or resistance, what it feels like, and how strong it is.
Think back to your earliest memory of that feeling — it may have nothing to do with speaking to strangers; but if it’s the same feeling, it’s relevant since your subconscious will have connected it somehow.
Notice what’s happening in that memory, and notice how you feel. If you don’t have an early memory, just go back to a recent memory of a situation where you felt the same.
Now, use the FasterEFT technique to tap until that feeling goes and the memory flips. As you go through the process, notice any other memories or thoughts that come to you, and make a note of them. Then, once you’ve flipped the one you’ve been working on, choose another one, and do the same — use the FasterEFT technique to flip that one. Keep going until you have flipped all of the memories connected to that feeling of resistance or fear of speaking with people you don’t know.
From now on, whenever you find yourself feeling fearful or resistant to speaking with strangers, use the FasterEFT technique in the moment to clear and flip the feeling. If you are with other people, or you can’t tap physically for some other reason, useMental Tapping — it works equally as effectively, and no-one will know you’re doing it.
The most important key is to keep going until you have completely cleared the feelings, and flipped the memories and thoughts. For more information on how to flip memories, and why it is so important to your success, read: Why do We Flip Memories in FasterEFT?
