One of the biggest challenges for those who are trying to improve their lives is day-to-day stress. Reading, listening to, or attending a live event on any self-development modality may be effective in the short term. However those effects tend to wear off for most people, when they go back to their daily lives.
Meditation is one of the most powerful ways of reducing stress. However, although it can, reduce overall stress in time, most people who use meditation still struggle with certain patterns and issues in their daily lives.

Have you ever made a change inside yourself by practicing the following?
1. meditation
2. visualization
3. attending a live self-development event
4. reading a book
5. watching great speakers
6. making a decision to change a habit
What happened when you went back to your daily life? You may have found you were able to stick to the new behavior, habit or decision for a while. However, there is a big chance of coming to a point when the day-to-day stress and events caused you to “fall off the wagon”. Why is that? After all, you were determined. You had made a serious conscious decision and you had taken serious conscious action. So, what happened?
Self-Hypnosis
We are constantly in and out of trances. Hypnotic trances. You’ll notice that when you are doing housework, you’re in a particular state — you no longer need to consciously make each decision for every movement.
You are able to clean your house pretty much on automatic. You’ll notice that when you’re driving, you are no longer thinking of every action — you’re able to drive without consciously thinking about it. Again, you’re on automatic.
This is how we’re able to survive and thrive in our environment. As we learn certain experiences by repetition, the specific actions related to that experience are recorded in the cerebellum (the “seat of the subconscious”) part of the brain. In addition to this, the chemical state of the body is also recorded, so that it can be reproduced for that specific experience in the future.
Over 90% of your daily life is conducted in trance. You’re in one trance during your morning routine; in another trance on your journey to work, or to the gym. You’re in another trance when you interact with loved ones; and you’re in a different trance while you’re interacting with your colleagues or performing routine tasks at work.
So, What’s the Problem?
While you were reading that self-development book, listening to the great speaker, or attending that live event, you were not in one of your daily trances. You were in the present moment, absorbing what you were experiencing. And if you were able to stay in that state — in other words, keep yourself out of all trances — you would have a greater chance of maintaining whatever it is you learned. However, because these trances are automatic, and we are largely unaware of them, we don’t know when we’re in one.
So, you return to your daily life, with great enthusiasm and determination. You may even start your day with your new attitude or behavior. Then, you find yourself feeling stressed, angry, upset, frustrated, or some other negative emotion; and you can’t pull yourself out of the old pattern or behavior. And then you may feel frustrated with yourself, or believe that the book, video, or live event didn’t “work”.
The Solution
These daily trances are determined by the records held in the subconscious. It is the subconscious programming that is running everything you do in trance.
The reason you are able to drive home for 30 minutes and not remember the journey is because your subconscious was effectively driving while your conscious mind was focused on something else. In the same way, your reactions to the world around you and the challenges you experience in your day-to-day life are not conscious.
They are automatic responses based on the data held in the subconscious, just like the driving. This means that in order to change those automatic responses, you need to change that data.
Changing the original records held in your subconscious will change the resulting trances. You will still be able to drive your car without having to think of every separate action consciously. But you will also be able to react calmly and rationally to that driver that cuts in front of you or tailgates you.
That too will be automatic and subconscious. In other words, you won’t need to make the conscious decision to feel calm; it will be as automatic as the anger was before.
